O.B. GOLFING SOCIETY
Edward Harris Cup – Friday 6th October 2017 – Ross-on Wye
Match Report
What a Day!!! Wall-to-wall blue sky, mild, no wind to speak of – couldn’t be better!
Bacon baps and coffee, always welcome and rapidly consumed, set us on our way suitably fortified.
A delightfully wooded course this, the only drawback at this time of year being that any ball straying into the rough tends to be covered by falling leaves and easily lost – a good incentive to keep straight!
As has been the case in recent years, Brecon’s was the only Society to field two teams. A two-tee start (1st and 10th), ensured reasonable time spent on the course; drainage work on some greens made putting interesting, but on such a lovely day it was a great pleasure to be out there!
Our line-up :-
Jonathan Arter, Tom Atkin, Robert Calcaterra, Russell Davies, Gwyn Jones, Nigel Jones, Pete Knill, Andrew Lewis, Mike Muir, Kevin Noble, Peter Owen, Hugh Phillips, Michael Shellard, Charles Spencer, Jonathan Spencer, Mark Wilson – results were :-
1st Bromsgrove – 128 points
2nd Wycliffe – 122 points
3rd Brecon A - 121 points
Joint 4th Cheltenham} - 118 points
Dean Close}
6th Malvern - 112 points
7th Brecon B - 110 points
8th Hereford CS - 102 points
Much crowing by Wycliffe at having pushed Brecon into 3rd – next year … !!
Our compensation this year was Pete Knill’s longest drive win, quite an achievement out of 64 contenders!!
As ever, an excellent dinner and great company – a happy day well organised by Hereford CS.
Next year will be organised by Bromsgrove.
Peter Owen (Hon.Sec.)
